The Health Care Payment and Action Network (HCPLAN) announced today the release of the finalized Alternative Payment Model (APM) Framework White Paper. This document provides definition and direction for the country on the new and evolving payment model categories eventually leading into population based payment.

The White Paper provides providers and consumers with a common framework and a set of conventions for measuring progress in the adoption of APMs -and describe the rewards that health care providers will receive based upon the quality and coordination of the care they provide.

It has been one year this month when President Obama announced this initiative. Within one year the committee representing public and private members collaborated and developed this document as a framework for effective health care reform.

“The White Paper marks an important milestone in the LAN’s progress to advance the adoption of new and innovative health care payment models that promise to improve the quality of health care for all Americans, while also reducing its cost,” said Sam R. Nussbaum, MD, chair of the LAN’s Alternative Payment Model Framework and Progress Tracking (APM FPT) Work Group, which developed the White Paper.
